About Our Consultants & Trainers

Education Specialties is staffed by Dr. Barbara Webb and two primary consultants, Dr. Sue Vernon and Dr. Susan D'Aniello. They each have several years of service in diverse educational backgrounds with specialties in ASD, Transitioning Skills for Special Education Students, learning strategies and social skills development for all students and young adults on the spectrum. We also provide specialty Trainers and Consultants to service any educational need.

Barbara J. Webb Ed.D.

Barbara received her Ed.D. from UNLV in Special Education. Her dissertation research explored the effectiveness of teaching a social skills strategy to high-functioning adolescents with autism. She is a licensed School Psychologist practicing for the past 17 years in both rural and urban public school districts. Dr. Webb worked for 3 years on a Low Incidence Disabilities Team for the Clark County School District, currently the nation's 5th largest school district, where she afforded extensive training and experience in transdisciplinary team assessment and interventions for students with Autism. The team developed and implemented a model training program for practicing teachers of students with autism.

 

Dr. Webb has extensive experience in conference presentations and individualized workshops in the areas of transdisciplinary team assessment, learning strategies, social skills, assistive technology, collaboration, access to general education curriculum, and parent perspectives. She has served on local, state, and national education committees. She has a genuine commitment to improving the lives of individuals with disabilities.


 

 


D. Sue Vernon Ph.D.

Sue is internationally known for her expertise in educational research. She has over 30 years of experience working with and developing programs for youth with exceptionalities, their families, and teachers. She is currently consulting and providing workshops for parents, educators, and health care professionals. She also provides individualized social skills and cognitive strategy instruction for children and youth. Dr. Vernon is a University of Kansas Research Affiliate, a Certified Strategic Instruction Model (SIM) Professional Developer, and a lecturer in graduate-level university courses. Her published programs including the Cooperative Thinking Strategies Series and the Community Building Series are included in the Learning Strategies Curriculum. Her most recent published program is an interactive multimedia (IM) program for teaching social skills to at-risk adolescents. The program provides self-paced instruction in skills that are basic to communication, are important when dealing with authority figures and peers, and are typically listed as areas of skill deficits for youth with social-adjustment issues.


Susan D'Aniello Ph.D.

Susan is an internationally known private consultant in the areas of strategic instruction, content enhancement techniques, Positive Behavior Supports, and Response to Intervention (RTI) for typical students as well as students with all disabilities Pre-K through high school. She has 35 years of experience as a teacher, high school principal, director of low incidence disabilities, director of curriculum and instruction, and has taught graduate level courses in special education and educational administration/supervision. She serves as an educational expert for law and disability advocacy groups and has extensive experience with underperforming schools in developing and implementing effective data driven school improvement plans.
